Speechless , possibly still due to oxygen starvation , or just an amazing ordeal . I left my hole of a hotel at 8 ish . The pull up is relentless , the last 3 k I was doing just enough to keep any sort of forward motion . My heart rate was fairly low , rarely going over 140 , but the legs had had enough. I did arrive at 11.20 , to be greeted by an over lifesize sculpture of the great Eddie Mercks .
The descent was mind bending , was on the brakes for 45 mins !
I headed straight for Lourdes and booked a night train to Paris . The thought of getting on the bike tomorrow for another 7 hrs is a no no .
Finally found a room in the extremely touristy Bagneres , detoured Pau , went through Tarbes , and now 2500 ft in the low Pyrenees . 96 mile total today .
Glad to be away from the faster roads , had more traffic the further south I travelled . Witnessed an accident this morning , a reminder of how fragile and transient life really is .
After Le Tourmalet tomorrow may look for an exit strategy, head for Paris ?
The route tomorrow will take me to Gavarnie on the Spanish border .
Reading Rousseau tonight .
Was severely tamed today . The temperature finally suited the location . I have been lucky the last few days , but today was hot!!
The cross wind from the west also backed onto the nose that made me work harder . Av 13.8 0ver 74 miles . So that leaves me 100 k to Pau , and all the climbing . Have decided to do the La Tourmalet , the most iconic climb of le Tour .
